Daniel Paivarinta

A Fort Dodge man charged with making threats of terrorism has agreed to a plea agreement and a lesser charge.

According to court documents, last week 27-year-old Daniel Paivarinta pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit a non-forcible felony.

Paivarinta was charged last May after the Fort Dodge Police Department received information that he had made social media threats of wanting to purchase a firearm and use it on law enforcement officers.

According to court documents, Paivarinta threatened to commit terrorism or made threats intended to cause fear of imminent acts of terrorism within the city limits of Fort Dodge.

In a 2025 press release, the Fort Dodge Police Department said further postings online by Paivarinta outlined his plans to carry out an attack on law enforcement, including publicly posting that he was in search of a firearm.

On May 1, 2025, the Fort Dodge Police Department arranged an operation that validated the identity of Paivarinta and his intent to purchase a firearm.

Paivarinta served 355 days in jail and will receive credit for that time against the five-year sentence for the conspiracy to commit a non-forcible felony charge.

Starting at $4.94/week.
