A fire at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility has sent clouds of heavy smoke into the air on the city’s west side.

Preliminary reports from the scene indicate a roof on one of the prison’s buildings is on fire.

The fire was reported at about 2 p.m. Officials report it was under control within the hour.
