No one was injured when a fire broke out in the second-floor bedroom of a Fort Dodge home Sunday afternoon.

The fire at 1406 Eighth Ave. S. was reported at 12:01 p.m., according to Fort Dodge Fire Capt. Jeff Hill.

When firefighters arrived, Hill said smoke could be seen coming from the whole house.

“We were able to make entry through the front door and knock it down within a couple of minutes,” Hill said.

Two people were home at the time, but Hill said both were able to make it out safely.

The fire was contained to a second-floor back bedroom, the exterior soffits and roofing material. Meanwhile, there was smoke and water damage throughout the rest of the home.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

“Right now it’s under investigation,” Hill said, with help from the Fort Dodge Police Department.

Initially, he said eight firefighters and four EMS personnel responded, and a second call for help brought seven more off-duty firefighters and another apparatus to the scene.

Firefighters remained on scene for about two hours.

In addition to the Fort Dodge Fire and Police departments, MidAmerican Energy also assisted at the scene.
