Awards to be given for parade winners Wednesday

The Frontier Days Parade Committee will be hosting an award ceremony Wednesday to honor the floats that were selected to win in different contests.

The ceremony will be at 2 p.m. in the Opera House at the Fort Museum & Frontier Village.

Cindy Mulroney, one of the parade coordinators, said pictures will be taken of the award recipients and the winners will be presented with trophies.

The event is open to the public.

The theme of this year’s Frontier Days, which was held last weekend, is Frontier Days Salutes Fort Dodge.

Five contests for parade entries were held.

The winner of the Best Theme Float was the Blanden Memorial Art Museum. In second place was Oakland Cemetery and in third place was Community Christian School.

The winner of the Best of Parade was Community Health Center of Fort Dodge. Placing second was the Fort Dodge Senior High Robotics Team.

In Best from Outside the City, the Webster County Fair Board took first place, while the Fort Dodge VFW was in second place.

Winning Best Large Commercial float was the Hollingsworth School of Dance and Gymnastics. The second place honors went to Mattress Firm.

And in the Best Small Commercial contest, the Fort Dodge Swim Club-ACAC Fort Dodge took first place, while Becker Florist took second place.

In addition to the award ceremony, this year’s parade grand marshals, John and Lin Simpson, will also be present.
