Contract for Williams Drive work approved

A short section of Williams Drive will be rebuilt this year under a contract awarded Monday by the Fort Dodge City Council.

Ten Point Construction Co., of Denison, was hired to do the work at a cost of $417,117.70.

When the weather makes work possible, the company will rebuild Williams Drive between 11th Avenue North and the point where Soldier Creek crosses beneath the road. This area is at the bottom of a hill, next to Snell-Crawford Park.

Other bidders for the job were Castor Construction, Fort Dodge, $429,288.39; Rasch Construction Inc., Fort Dodge, $430,811.45; Wicks Construction, Decorah, $454,189.90; Absolute Concrete, Slater, $473,861.17; and K. Cunningham Construction, Cedar Falls, $506,280.31.

Also on Monday, the council approved the purchase of two new dump trucks for the Public Works Department. The two Mack truck chassis are being purchased from Rees Truck and Trailer, of Fort Dodge, for $219,870.44. The dump boxes and other gear are being purchased from Hiway Truck Equipment, of Fort Dodge, for $176,588.

The total cost for the two fully equipped trucks is $396,458.44.

The council also bought two Ford sport utility vehicles for the Police Department from Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota for $63,734.
