Eagle Grove loses power Thursday

Nearly 2,000 customers affected; power was restored by 3:30 p.m.

EAGLE GROVE — A large portion of Eagle Grove lost power Thursday afternoon after a construction company struck a line, according to Geoff Greenwood, a spokesman for MidAmerican Energy Co.

Almost 2,000 customers lost power just before 2 p.m., Greenwood reported.

He said a wire was reported down in the 300 block of Southwest Second Street.

Crews from MidAmerican were on scene a short time later and restored power to 500 customers within 45 minutes.

A majority of customers had power restored by 3 p.m. All customers had power restored by 3:30 p.m.

Colleen Bartlett, a career academy specialist with Iowa Central’s North Central Career Academy in Eagle Grove, said the building the academy is housed in lost power.

Classes were not in session at the time of the outage, she said.

Power was restored before an integrated manufacturing class that was to take place in the evening, Bartlett said.
