LU VERNE — A death investigation is underway in Kossuth County after a man was found dead by his wife.

Deputies with the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Department were contacted at 5:30 p.m. Monday by a Lu Verne woman who said her husband was on the floor and unresponsive.

When investigators arrived on scene, they confirmed the man was dead, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said the man’s body will be sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Ankeny for an autopsy.

The man was not identified by investigators, nor was the location of where the man’s body was found.

The Iowa Division of Criminal investigation was contacted by Kossuth County investigators to assist in the case.

While the investigation is ongoing, the sheriff’s office believes this is an isolated incident.

“In the interest of public safety, there is no reason to believe that there is an ongoing threat to the citizens of this community,” the sheriff’s office said in a written statement.
