Four face robbery, kidnap charges

Four men, including a Fort Dodge resident, have been arrested after two of them reportedly forced someone at gunpoint to drive them to Albert City, where they robbed two people, according to the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department.

The Sheriff’s Department identified the men as John Hankerson, 20, of South Bend, Indiana; Jerome Roberts, 19; of St. Louis, Missouri; Jerrick Crosby-Fisher, 22, of Fort Dodge; and Ammari Johnson, 19, of Cedar Rapids..

They have been charged with second-degree kidnapping, robbery, extortion, assault, going armed with intent, theft, conspiracy to commit a forcible felony and operating a vehicle without owner’s consent.

All of them were students at Iowa Central Community College at the time of the May 9 incident, according to college President Dan Kinney.

“They were students at the college,” he said. “They were enrolled at Iowa Central Community College.”

He said the college is cooperating with authorities. He said investigators have reviewed some security camera images from the Fort Dodge campus.

According to investigators, an individual was held at gunpoint and ordered to drive Hankerson and Roberts from Fort Dodge to Albert City during the afternoon of May 9. In Albert City, Hankerson and Roberts robbed two individuals, taking money and other items, the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department reported. Then Crosby-Fisher and Johnson drove Hankerson and Roberts back to Fort Dodge.

Crosby-Fisher was arrested in Fort Dodge, while Johnson was taken into custody in Cedar Rapids.

Roberts was arrested in St. Louis, Missouri.

Crosby-Fisher, Johnson and Roberts are in the Buena Vista County Jail.

Hankerson was located and arrested in Memphis, Tennessee. He is being held there, awaiting extradition to Iowa.

The incident was investigated by the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department, the Iowa State Patrol and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
