Gowrie mayor gets traffic citation

GOWRIE — Gayle Redman, the mayor of Gowrie, has received a traffic citation for allegedly backing up onto a highway.

Redman appeared in Webster County Magistrate Court Friday morning on a ticket for unsafe backing on a highway.

According to the ticket, Redman allegedly backed up in the 1200 block of Market Street on May 15 at 1:45 p.m.

Redman pleaded not guilty to the charge Friday.

“I was just backing out of a parking space,” Redman told Magistrate Steve Kersten. “It wasn’t on the highway.”

Gowrie Police Chief Patrick Monaghan wrote the ticket, according to the citation.

Kersten told Redman that he would schedule a trial for June 27, where she will be able to defend herself in court.

In addition, Webster County Attorney Darren Driscoll, who was present during Magistrate Court, told Redman that she is welcome to contact his office to see if they can work out something with the case.

Redman said she wasn’t sure if she should plead guilty or not guilty, but Driscoll said if she didn’t believe she did anything wrong, she should plead not guilty.

Starting at $4.94/week.
