Webster City sees 117 graduate

-Messenger photos by Troy Banning Lacey Westberg was one of the two students chosen as a senior class speaker during the Webster City graduation ceremony on Sunday inside the WCHS gymnasium.

  WEBSTER CITY — One-hundred seventeen Webster City High School seniors received diplomas Sunday afternoon in a ceremony held in the high school gym.

  The students entered the gym to the swells of “Pomp and Circumstance,” performed by the high school band under the direction of Rachel Daum. Junior class representatives Josh Casady and Brayden Berg led the students in the processional.

  Senior class president Tyler Bultena welcomed his fellow students and those in the audience.

  The Purple and Gold Singers, under the director of Andrew Wotherspoon and accompanied by Joan Hopkins, performed “Afternoon on a Hill.” Members of the senior class performed “Imagine” by John Lennon. The band, featuring members of the senior class, presented “Acclamations.”

-Messenger photos by Troy Banning Haley Flaws decorated her cap with a play on the Nike slogan to commemorate her graduation from Webster City High School.

  High School Principal Brent Jorth introduced and recognized the 10 students who were named as the Cessna 3.75 scholars.

  Associate Principal Kevin Whitehill presented the class of 2018, reading the names of the students as they crossed the stage and received their diplomas. Beth Van Diest, school board president, and Juli Jaycox, vice president, congratulated the graduates as they accepted their diplomas.

  The new graduates greeted each other after the ceremony, sharing hugs and tears and snapping photos to remember the day.
