Fort Dodge firefighters work to extinguish a car fire in the parking lot of Yesway, 1601 Fifth Ave. S. Monday. Fort Dodge Fire Lt. Jeff Hill said the driver of the Volkswagen reported having problems with the car’s motor. It began sputtering and the driver saw smoke. Hill said that’s when the driver pulled into Yesway to stop and get out of the car. Although there were some propane tanks at the gas station, Hill said they were in no danger of being ignited by the flames. “The car was far enough away from there and they were protected in the storage area,” Hill said. The Fort Dodge Police Department also responded to the scene.
