Simpson College student Leah Gibbons of Harcourt earned President’s List honors for the 2019 spring semester, the college recently announced. The graduate of Southeast Valley High School achieved a perfect 4.0 grade-point average for the semester, one of just 113 students to achieve the honor.
Community Christian School has awarded its Alumni Scholarship to three high school seniors who graduated from CCS as eighth-graders. The recipients are Collin Ellsbury, Christopher Hatton and Juliet Thompson. Each are 2019 graduates of Fort Dodge Senior High. The scholarships were awarded at the 2019 eighth-grade graduation on May 23 at CCS. The scholarships are worth $250 each. To be eligible, a graduating senior must be a CCS eighth-grade graduate and must complete an application, which includes a written essay. Applications are reviewed by a scholarship committee.
The Marjorie Hubel estate recently awarded 17 $1,000 scholarships to local students who will be attending college in the fall. The recipients are Aiden Simonson, Anna Lewandowski, Chase McInville, Riley Mayer, Colton DeLanoit, Jerrica Fitzgerald, Noila Pingel, Luke Lewandowski, Taylor (Shirbroun) Archibald, Peter Lyon, Kirsten DeLanoit, Autumn Baedke, Miranda McInville, Harrison Mayer, Erin Eldridge, Hannah Rees and Macey Mason. The Majorie Hubel Scholarship Committee awards the money through the Disabled American Veterans.
WINONA, Minn. — Two area students have been named to the Dean’s List at Winona State University in Minnesota. The honorees are Beth Murman, of Fort Dodge, and Sydney Ernst, of Sac City. To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must be an undergraduate enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours for a grade) and achieve a minimum grade-point average of 3.5.
GOWRIE — Danielle Peterson, of Gowrie, graduated from A.T. Still University’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) in Kirksville, Missouri, on May 18. She received the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. She attended Simpson College and Iowa State University before enrolling at ATSU-KCOM. Peterson is the daughter of Jim (Archie) and Pat Peterson, Gowrie. Peterson will begin her residency at Children’s Hospital-University of Illinois in Chicago in July, where she will complete her residency in pediatrics.
The “Rethink Your Drink” partnership led by the Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation is donating an Elkay water bottle filling station that will be installed at FDMS this summer, updating an existing water fountain near the cafeteria.
