Lori Platt, a licensed practical nurse at UnityPoint Clinic Kenyon Road — Neurology, was named the November Employee of the Month.

Platt was nominated by Caitlin Bernau, an advanced registered nurse practitioner in neurology, who shared about a time Platt cared for a patient having an active medical emergency in the clinic.

“Lori didn’t leave the patient’s side and kindly, with genuine compassion and pure empathy, held her hand and talked her through her spells, fear and tears until Emergency Medical Services arrived,” Bernau said. “It didn’t come as a surprise to me that Lori did this, but it was a reminder she isn’t recognized enough for the endless hours and effort she puts in to ensure our patients are given the absolute best we can provide.”

Bernau describes Platt as a team player, who is always looking for ways to improve the clinic to best meet the needs of the patients.

“The impact Lori has on patients is profound, and she never says no to spearheading an initiative to implement positive change,” Bernau said. “As a provider, we rely heavily on our clinic nurses, and it’s an honor and blessing to have Lori in neurology.”
