Intern breakfast offers opportunity to network

ALGONA — The Kossuth/Palo Alto County Economic Development Corporation will provide interns a networking opportunity during its 25th annual Intern Breakfast beginning at 7:30 a.m. May 29 at the Columbia Events Center.

The Intern Breakfast allows interns a chance to become acquainted with each other and provides an opportunity to network with CEOs and company managers. Informational packets will be provided to help the interns become acclimated with our area. The keynote speaker for this year’s breakfast will be Pharmacists Mutual Senior Vice President Underwriting, Alison VanOtterloo.

Interns attending the K/PACEDC Intern Breakfast also have the chance to sign up to participate in the Intern Advisory Committee. The committee meets several times during the summer to help direct the interns in specific trainings, and social outings.

The Career-Intern Program was developed 25 years ago as a means of securing a future workforce in the area.

“The program encourages young adults to settle and bring new businesses to the area,” said Maureen Elbert, executive director of K/PAEDC. “This program also gives them true skill building training sessions that will hopefully enhance their ability to obtain a good job and make them a committed and productive employee and community leader. We have worked hard on lining up quality keynote speakers and events that all will enjoy participating in and are looking forward to this year’s program.”

“This program has truly grown and been enhanced over the years,” she added. “Our key committee, the Career-Intern Committee, plans, volunteers and works at the various Intern Programs throughout the summer. This is a fun group that is truly volunteering their time to make a difference for our area. We have so many examples of college graduates that have returned to our area either following graduation or after years being in the workforce and starting a family.”

Businesses which will have interns working for them this year should contact Kossuth/Palo Alto County Economic Development Corporation at (515) 295-7979 or at kcedc@kossuthia.com.
