Musical representatives of the U.S. Army are coming to Fort Dodge.

The United States Army Field Band and Soldiers’ Chorus will perform beginning at 7 p.m. July 10 in Decker Auditorium at Iowa Central Community College.

Free tickets are available at The Messenger, 713 Central Ave. There is a limit of four tickets per person.

The performance is sponsored by The Messenger, the Karl King Municipal Band and Iowa Central.

“Our people are excited and proud to sponsor the Army band’s visit to Fort Dodge,” said Terry Christensen, the publisher of The Messenger. “I encourage the public to take advantage of this opportunity to enjoy these world class musicians.”

The 60-piece band and 29-member chorus is based in the Washington, D.C., area. The band and chorus members spend more than 100 days on tour every year.

According to Col. Jim Keene, the commander of the band and chorus, these tours “strengthen the bond between the Army and the people it serves.”

“Through social media, our soldiers’ hard work and the efforts of the host sponsors, our unit’s outreach has grown by more than 400 percent in the past three years, exceeding all of the other military bands combined,” Keene said in a written statement.

The 2018 tour includes stops in 25 states, Puerto Rico and Norway. Fort Dodge is one of only three Iowa cities on the tour. The other two are Dubuque and Iowa City.

“There will not be another local occasion to hear these two fine groups within the next five years based on their current touring cycles,” said Jerrold Jimmerson, conductor of the Karl King Municipal Band. “Don’t miss it.”

On the day of the concert, doors will open to ticket holders at 6:15 p.m. All ticket holders should be seated by 6:45 p.m.

The concert will be two hours long, with a short intermission.
