WEBSTER CITY — Kendall Young Library, Webster City, will be having adult programs throughout the month of April.

The Civil War and the Ties to Iowa — Local Author Michael Eckers — Join us on April 16 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. to hear from local author Michael Eckers.

Michael Eckers has studied the history of America and our military for more than 50 years. He is retired from federal service including four years in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era. Ekers now resides in Webster City; for most of the past decade, he has traveled the country, speaking and writing. He is an active supporter of numerous historical and veteran groups in the Midwest.

Eckers has written three books on the American Civil War. “Wisconsin Iron” is a novel about a young man in the Iron Brigade while “The Boys of Wasioja” is a non-fiction work chronicling the experiences of Company C of the Second Minnesota Infantry from Dodge County. “Northern Colors” is the Civil War segment of a series which will chronicle the generations of a family from the American Revolution through today’s War on Terror. “Colors in the Earth” is the story of a Minnesota doughboy and an American nurse in France during The Great War. Another in this series is “Colors in the Air,” the tale of a young bombardier in the U.S. Eighth Air Force and his new bride. The two must test their love through the separation and carnage of World War II. The “Colors” series are based on Ecker’s own family ancestry. He is currently working on “Sunset Colors,” about the end of the Indian Wars and the Spanish-American conflict in Cuba.

His newest project, entitled “Five For Freedom,” is a story of a young war correspondent searching for his four high school basketball team mates from Iowa. All are serving in different military branches during The Second World War, scattered around the world.
