Catholic Choral Festival set for Oct. 8

St. Edmond Catholic School, 2321 Sixth Ave. N., is hosting the Catholic Choral Festival at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, in the school varsity gym. Participating schools and directors are Carroll Kuemper, directed by Jeff Wicker; Algona Bishop Garrigan, directed by Abigail Mathahs; Sioux City Bishop Heelan, directed by Gage Fenton; LeMars Gehlen Catholic, directed by Gerrit Nieuwendorp; and Fort Dodge Saint Edmond, directed by Melissa Hindt. Admission is $3 per person.

FDPL hosting “Gangster in Our Midst: The Untold Story” author talk on Oct. 6

The Fort Dodge Public Library, 424 Central Ave., is hosting author Betty Brandt Passick, of Oakdale, Minnesota, at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 6. Brandt Passick, who grew up in Fairbank, is the author of the award-winning historical novel, “Gangster in Our Midst, Bookkeeper, Lieutenant, and Sometimes Hitman for Al Capone.” She will present a 60-minute program on this Iowa story. Fairbank has the remarkable claim of hosting Alphonse Capone’s bookkeeper, Louie La Cava, for over 60 years. FDPL announces October Brown Bag Briefings

The Fort Dodge Public Library, 424 Central Ave., will be holding Brown Bag Briefings beginning at noon Thursday and continuing on Thursdays through Oct. 23. The briefing Thursday will be a presentation by Carol Grannon on the new surgical unit that is being built at Unity Point Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center. On Oct. 9, author and retired high school English teacher Ann Hanigan Kotz will speak about little know Iowans in history with her program Iowa’s Rogues and Heroes. First UMC rummage sale is Oct. 9, 10, 11

First United Methodist Church, 127 N. 10th St., is holding a rummage sale from 1 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 9, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 10 and from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 11. Enter the church on the west side, steps or elevator. On Oct. 11 only, large items will be half price and a bag will be $4.

Daybreak Rotary chili supper is Oct. 11

Trail cleanup scheduled for Oct. 4, sign up requested

The city of Fort Dodge and Webster County Conservation are holding a trail clean up of the Prairie Rivers Trail Corridors from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 4. Groups or individuals will meet at River’s Edge Discovery Center, 20 N.
