Humboldt keeps perfect 3A-2 mark intact, 42-0

HUMBOLDT — The fourth-ranked Humboldt football squad kept its perfect district record intact on Friday night, setting up a showdown with No. 1 Algona. The Wildcats (5-1 overall, 2-0 Class 3A, District 2) blanked Charles City (3-3, 0-2) by a final of 42-0. Algona (6-0, 2-0) will now travel to Humboldt this coming Friday to see who will be the last remaining unbeaten in the district. Garrigan scores 71 in road rout

SIOUX CITY — The top-ranked (8-player) Bishop Garrigan machine continues to roll, as they reached the 70-point plateau on Friday night. The defending eight-man champions cruised to a 71-20 victory over Siouxland Christian (0-6). The Golden Bears (6-0) had 477 yards of total offense and 283 yards on the ground. Trayton Cink was the groundhog with 162 yards on 11 carries and three touchdowns. Cink had touchdown runs of 71, 44 and one yard. Mustangs fall at home

NEWELL — The Newell-Fonda football team couldn’t hold on against Boyer Valley on Friday night. The Bulldogs (5-2 overall, 2-2 district) scored two touchdowns in the final 10 minutes to rally past Newell-Fonda (2-4, 1-3) for a 28-22 victory. Jacksyn Hogrefe had two touchdowns for N-F. Hogrefe scored on a 44-yard run and caught a six-yard touchdown strike from Max Carlson. Carlson added an eight-yard TD run.

Matson, Davis connect twice

HUMBOLDT — Sixth-ranked Humboldt got back on track here Friday night with a 28-10 win over Hampton-Dumont/CAL. The Wildcats (4-1 overall, 1-0 in Class 3A, District 2) handed the Bulldogs (2-3, 0-1) their third consecutive loss. Coen Matson found Valley Davis for two touchdown scores. Matson now has 11 scoring strikes this season and Davis has caught three of them. Cash McIntire and Jaxson Kirchoff both had touchdowns. It was McIntire’s second and first for Kirchoff, his sophomore teammate. Mason Van Pelt led the defense with eight tackles and an interception.
