Encourages FD residents to vote

To the editor: Thank you to the voters who voted for me in the January special election primary for the Fort Dodge City Council at-large seat. I am writing to encourage you to exercise your freedom to vote by voting on Tuesday, Feb. 7. You have an opportunity to select one of the two primary winners, Wayne Mason or Megan Secor, for the City Council at-large seat. A great voice is stilled

To the editor: We were so saddened to learn of the recent passing of Robert Patton. A truly great singer who freely shared his wonderful talents with our community. How privileged we were to hear him perform with the Karl King Band on a yearly basis and the Fort Dodge Choral Society from time to time. He was a wonderful singer and terrific person as well. After his professional singing career with the Singing Sergeants in Washington, D.C., he returned to his hometown, Gowrie. How good was he? Unhappy with EPC

To the editor: The EPC, the Environmental Protection Commission, has nine members appointed by Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds. Requirements say three members must be active in livestock or grain farming. Farming’s a business, right? One must be from the business of finance or commerce. One must be actively engaged in management of manufacturing. Do you see a pattern? Five would be a majority for business. Four must be from one political party. Why are there no requirements for environmentalists – even one? Why don’t they just be honest and rename it BPC, the Business Protection ...

Spirit of Christmas

To the editor: The spirit of Christmas is alive and well at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in downtown Fort Dodge. When you happen to drive past our church on First Avenue South just west of the round-about, your may have noticed a life-sized creche or nativity scene. This scene has been displayed starting the first Sunday after Thanksgiving through Epiphany. We have displayed this nativity scene for years. What you may have missed is the baby Jesus.
