Preserve FD seeks to address community problems

To the editor: In response to the July 6, 2024, editorial: “Effort is needed to address abandoned buildings, homeless”. Preserve Fort Dodge, Inc. echoes this concern regarding abandoned buildings and homelessness. The issue is exactly what Preserve Fort Dodge, an Iowa non-profit corporation, is working to address. The purpose of Preserve Fort Dodge is “to oversee and/or assist in steps for preservation, adaptive reuse and/or rehabilitation of vacant buildings within Fort Dodge to ensure their future use and viability for the betterment of our community.” We are starting with ...

To the editor: My first attendance at a Major League Baseball game, August 1971, with parents and brothers featuring the great Harmon Killebrew, got me hooked on baseball. After all of the games I have attended, I have cut out the box score from the city I was visiting or The Messenger when I arrived home and put it in a scrapbook. Recently, I attended my No. 188 MLB game in Minnesota, and since the game was not completed until after 10:30 p.m., I was afraid the local paper, if I could even find one, would not have the completed box score. To the editor: From Humboldt through Fort Dodge, Coalville, Kalo, Dolliver Memorial State Park, Lehigh, and into Stratford, the Des Moines River winds its way through Webster County, leaving in its wake a beautiful throughline of nature, recreation, and scenery. Swing for a Cure team says thank you

To the editor: The 19th annual Swing for a Cure golf outing was held on June 7 this year at the Fort Dodge Country Club. We had 30 teams that enjoyed the fun-filled day. The outpouring of generosity and support this event receives year after year is a wonderful tribute to this community’s members and businesses. The event raises funds that are utilized in the outpatient Diabetes Center at Trinity Regional Medical Center. The invaluable education provided by this center gives those with diabetes the knowledge and skills necessary to lead a long and healthy life, reducing the risk ...
