FD Public Library STEM Drop In is Friday

The Fort Dodge Public Library, 424 Central Ave., is holding a STEM Drop In from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday in the library’s large meeting room. Children ages 6 years old and up with their caregivers are invited. Children can try their hand at putting together dinosaur bones, see how motion and friction work with race car ramps, build a light circuit to see how electricity works, use math and science to create art and more.

Downtown cleanup set for Thursday

A group of volunteers will spend part of Thursday afternoon getting Fort Dodge looking good for the Downtown Country Jam on Saturday. A cleanup sponsored by the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance and Main Street Fort Dodge will take place between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. About 80 volunteers are already signed up to help.

Twin Lakes Triathlon is Saturday

MANSON — The 19th annual Twin Lakes Sprint Triathlon and third annual Super Sprint Triathlon will take place on Saturday. Both events start at 7:30 a.m. at the Twin Lakes Bible Camp, 7718 Twin Lakes Road, Manson. The sprint triathlon is a 500-meter swim, followed by a double loop 12-mile bike ride on blacktop roads around North Twin Lake. Participants finish with the 3.1 mile run on the trail, ending at the Bible Camp. The Super Sprint Triathlon is for those who would like a shorter, faster race. Coffee and Conservation is Saturday

Webster County Conservation is holding Coffee and Conservation at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Matt Cosgrove River’s Edge Discovery Center, 20 N. First St. Each month there will be an informal discussion about a variety of conservation/recreation topics in Webster County. Coffee and light snacks will be provided. This week’s topic is beekeeping.

Man arrested in bomb threat incident

A man has been arrested and charged with making a bomb threat against a Fort Dodge dental clinic, according to court records. Robert D. Ulicki, 75, of Lehigh, was charged by Fort Dodge police with threat, explosive or incendiary device and first-degree harassment. In criminal complaints filed against Ulicki, police wrote, “Defendant mentioned a pipe bomb being placed at Aspen Dental. Second person arrested in break-in, beating incident

A second man has been arrested in connection with a July 4 burglary in which a woman was beaten with a bat or club. John C. Schlack, 28, of 106 N. 10th St., was arrested by Fort Dodge police on Monday. He faces charges of first-degree burglary and violation of parole, according to court records. Schlack and two other people reportedly went into an apartment in the 1500 block of Third Avenue North at about 2 a.m. July 4, according to criminal complaints.
