Afro-Latino Festival is Wednesday at Iowa Central

Iowa Central Community College will present the Afro-Latino Festival from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Student Resource Center. Admission is free. Various dance groups will perform. Cucho (Peru) will perform at 8:30 a.m. Danza Folklorica (Mexico) will perform at 9:15 a.m. Mambo Soul Dance (Peru) will perform at 10:30 a.m. Afro-Colombia group (Colombia) will perform at 11:30 a.m. Son Peruchos (South American band) will perform at 12:30 p.m.

FDPL holding teen crafternoon Friday

The Fort Dodge Public Library, 424 Central Ave., is holding teen crafternoon from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friday at the library’s large meeting room. Teens in seventh through 12th grades can try out one of the library’s crafts or bring one from home. Relax, hang out with others and enjoy light snacks. The event will also be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26.

Fort Dodge Women’s Connection brunch set for Tuesday

Fort Dodge Women’s Connection will meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Tea Thyme, 2021 Sixth Ave. S. Wall Lake man killed in crash

SAC COUNTY — A crash around 7:29 a.m. on Thursday claimed the life of a Wall Lake man, according to an accident report from the Iowa State Patrol. Jeremy Fank, 57, of Carroll, was driving a 2013 Dodge Ram northbound on Union Avenue and attempted to pass a semitrailer. He saw a vehicle approaching and attempted to evade by swerving toward the west ditch. Roy Russom, 90, of Wall Lake, was driving a 2025 Toyota Camry southbound on Union Avenue. DNR introduces new deer tag for disabled veterans

A disabled veterans deer tag will be available for the first time during the 2025-2026 hunting season, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. To qualify for the new tag, hunters must be a resident of Iowa and have served in the armed forces of the United States on federal active duty and were disabled during their military service (service connected disability). Hunters will be issued one any deer tag valid for any established firearm season, if eligible. The fee is $33, and hunters are required to use the method of take for the season hunted. Mountain lion spotted in NW Iowa

Images of a mountain lion with a neck collar in northwest Iowa have been circulating over social media in the past few days, according to the state Department of Natural Resources. The subadult male, estimated to be less than 2 years old, was collared as part of an ongoing research project by Nebraska Game, Fish & Parks to better understand mountain lion movements, behaviors and dispersal. “This cat has traveled a long distance from Nebraska’s north-central region to northwest Iowa, and is providing valuable data for Nebraska Game, Fish & Parks,” said Vince Evelsizer, state ...
