FD man arrested for violent break-in

A man has been arrested for reportedly breaking into a Fort Dodge apartment and restraining the resident while someone else beat her with a bat or club, according to court records. David S. Dayton, 39, 1609 12th Ave. S.W., has been charged with first-degree burglary, court records indicate. He and two other people are accused of going into an apartment in the 1500 block of Third Avenue North at about 2 a.m. July 4, according to criminal complaints. FD City Council to consider bus contract

Buses and a bond issue will be on the agenda for the Fort Dodge City Council tonight. The council will meet at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S. During the meeting, the council will consider a new contract with MIDAS Council of Governments for operation of Dodger Area Rapid Transit (DART) buses. That contract includes increases in the fares that passengers will pay to ride the buses. For example, a monthly bus pass for an adult will rise from $35 to $37. IowaWORKS to move to temporary offices

The IowaWORKS staff assigned to the Fort Dodge office will be working from a series of temporary locations beginning on Friday. The office on the Iowa Central Community College campus will not be used after Thursday due to circumstances surrounding its lease, according to an announcement from IowaWORKS. Until a new permanent office is set up, the staff will be working from these temporary offices through August: Fort Dodge — Department of Health and Human Services Building, 330 First Ave. N., 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. RAGBRAI to pass through Kossuth County

SWEA CITY — RAGBRAI riders will pass through northern Kossuth County on Tuesday. The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging anyone who will be traveling through that area to find an alternate route if possible. Campground closures announced at Brushy Creek

LEHIGH — As the Iowa Department of Natural Resources renovates camp sites at Brushy Creek State Recreation Area, the North campground will remain closed for the 2025 camping season. The Beach and South campgrounds are currently open for reservations until Aug. 3. The rest of the recreational area is open for day-use, including hiking, equestrian use, fishing and more. ABATE of Iowa Bikes for Tykes Run is Saturday

ABATE of Iowa District 10 is holding its annual Bikes for Tykes Run and meeting on Saturday beginning at Fort Dodge Ford Toyota, 2723 Fifth Ave. S. Registration for the run is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration fee is $10 per person. All proceeds from the ride will go toward purchasing bikes for Alpha Media’s Bikes for Tykes program.
