Bon-Ton hints at comeback with online teases
‘We’ve got great news — Younkers is coming back’
Younkers, and its parent firm Bon-Ton Stores Inc., are broadly hinting that the chain that shuttered its retail dynasty across the Midwest in August, will rise again.
The “hints” are being published in the form of teasing messages appearing on the web homepages of each of the bankrupt parent company’s stores — Younkers, Boston Store, Carson’s, Bergner’s, Elder-Beerman and Herberger’s.
The text of those teases reads: “We’ve got great news — Younkers is coming back. Stay tuned for updates over the coming weeks! We appreciate your loyalty & look forward to being able to serve you again soon.”
In Fort Dodge, where Younkers was one of three major anchor stores at the Crossroads Mall, Mall Manager Melissa Verschoor said she was unaware of the company’s plans.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, a push is being made to acquire the rights to “relaunch the retailer and its subsidiary brands.”
Bon-Ton Stores filed for bankruptcy on Feb. 4.
