For almost 70 years, Fort Dodgers have been able to look to Mikos & Matt Furniture to find that comfortable piece of furniture to sit or lie down on.

The business, located at 3336 Fifth Ave. S., across from Menards, was founded in 1953.

About 11 people work there under the guidance of Chris Mikos and Justin Mikos.

Like a vast majority of businesses, COVID-19 changed the way business has been conducted.

Mikos & Matt closed for five weeks during the pandemic.

“That ended almost all revenue coming in, but most expenses continue on,” said Justin Mikos. “We applied and received a PPP loan, which was very helpful. I want to thank our legislators for that.”

Justin Mikos said the pandemic has also disrupted the supply chain.

“Product shipping times have been much longer and difficult to predict,” he said.

Having a large store has been one benefit during the pandemic.

“We follow CDC guidelines with employees,” Justin Mikos said. “Our store is large, so we can maintain social distance within the store easily.”

Mikos & Matt offers various types of furniture and mattresses.

“We offer in-home delivery of fully assembled furniture,” Justin Mikos said. “We also haul away furniture and mattress pieces.”

Justin Mikos is optimistic that business will pick up.

“Since we re-opened, our business has been good,” he said. “I feel people have been spending much more time at home, which has fueled demand for most in-home products. This demand spike has been nationwide.”
