LJ Maehl, Anna Lursen and Eden Horn were all honored by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association as all-district basketball selections.
Maehl was named to the Class 4A Northeast team while Lursen and Horn made the 1A Northwest squad.
Ellie Sievers, Quinn Sievers and Rylee Hogrefe of Newell-Fonda, along with Ainley Ulrich from North Union, joined Palmer and Horn on the 1A Northwest squad. Bishop Garrigan’s Emmi Bartolo, Graclyn Eastman and Sacha Alesch were placed on the 1A North Central team, as Brandon Schwab was co-coach of the year.
In 2A, Emmetsburg’s Rachel Schany and Khloe Mefferd of Pocahontas Area made the Northwest team. Humboldt’s Ava Fischer and Algona’s Hayden McLaughlin were placed on the 3A Northwest squad.
Maehl, who became Fort Dodge’s 5-on-5 career leader for points and rebounds, averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds per game. The Northwest Missouri State commit added two steals and two assists a night.
Lursen and Horn helped St. Edmond to a 17-6 record, the most wins for the program since 2013-14. They reached the regional semifinals before falling to Bishop Garrigan.
A senior, Lursen tallied 108 points with 145 rebounds, 91 steals, 87 assists and five blocked shots this past year. She finished her Gael career with 418 points scored.
Horn, a freshman, ranked in the Top-5 in the state regardless of class in rebounds per game and blocked shots per game. She averaged 14 points, just under 15 rebounds and five blocks a night.
