Triton women victorious on ‘Education Day’ at Hodges Fieldhouse

The Iowa Central women put on a show for hundreds of local and area elementary students here Friday during the annual Education Day game inside Hodges Fieldhouse.
Trista Ohlmeier recorded a double-double to lift the Tritons past Minnesota North-Vermilion, 62-47.
Ohlmeier scored a team-high 20 points while grabbing 12 rebounds to go along with three blocked shots and three steals for Iowa Central (10-3 overall).
MacKenna Bush added 13 points and five rebounds, as Ashleigh Kerr had 10 points and three assists off the bench.
The Tritons jumped out early on the Ironhawks (7-7), taking a 19-8 lead after the first. They never trailed, leading by as many as 19 early in the third quarter.
Well over 100 elementary students — mostly from St. Edmond and Manson Northwest Webster — were in attendance.
“It was awesome to have the kids part of the game,” ICCC head coach Graham McFall said. “They brought a ton of energy and made it a great environment for our players.”
A plus-22 advantage on points in the paint helped Iowa Central overcome 28 turnovers, as they had 17 assists on 24 made field goals.
Amelia Echternkamp added six points with four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Ashlin Jacobsen had five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Kaydence Nicholas chipped in five points, five boards and two assists.
For MN-V, Kye Clater scored a game-high 23 points.
Iowa Central started hosting the event three years ago as a way to provide an opportunity for area elementary students to attend a college basketball game for free.
The Tritons will conclude 2025 with a trip to Anoka-Ramsey on Wednesday, Dec. 31.
