St. Edmond girls dominate at H-D/C

HAMPTON — The St. Edmond girls will head into the extended break with plenty of momentum after picking up a convincing 44-16 victory here Friday night over Hampton-Dumont/CAL.

The Gaels (3-2 overall, 3-1 in the North Central Conference) scored the first 15 points of the contest, taking a commanding 19-2 lead after the opening eight minutes. They led by 13 at the break and were up 29-11 going into the fourth.

Abby Huss scored 14 pints, Eden Horn had 12 and Chloe Palmer added seven. Huss knocked down four 3-pointers on the evening.

“Abby got a couple of shots to fall early and that got her going,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “We need that consistent shooting from the outside because it opens up our offense.

“We didn’t have a great second quarter, but I thought the girls responded well and adjusted in the second half. It was good to see them be able to do that out there on the court.”

St. Edmond has a winning record at the break for the first time since the 2014-15 season when they went 5-2 to begin the year.

The victory snapped a 21-game losing skid for the Gaels to Hampton-Dumont/CAL, with their last win in the series coming on Jan. 21, 2014.

Sophia Schlienz chipped in five points, Anna Lursen four and Maggie Flaherty two.

The Bulldogs (2-5, 1-3) finally got on the scoreboard with 4:34 to play in the second quarter.

St. Edmond hits the court in 2026 for the first time on Jan. 6 when they travel to Humboldt. A makeup date with South Hamilton is set for two days later.

Starting at $4.94/week.
