Gael girls earn road victory
CLARION — The St. Edmond girls returned to action here Friday night, besting Clarion-Goldfield/Dows in North Central Conference play, 47-7.
Chloe Palmer scored 11 points and both Anna Lursen and Olivia Andrew each added 10 for the Gaels (1-1 overall, 1-0 in the league), who played No. 2 (Class 1A) Bishop Garrigan last week to open the season.
“It was nice to see us come out and execute some of the things we worked on in practice this past week,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “We spent time getting back in basketball shape and preparing for the next few weeks.”
Sophia Schlienz added seven points with a 3-pointer and Abby Huss finished with six, sinking a pair of triples in the game.
St. Edmond raced out to a 13-2 lead after the first and held a 30-point advantage at the half.
“I’m glad we were able to get several girls some key varsity experience,” Tracy said. “They showed some really good things.
“We’ll get back to work and ready for next week.”
Last year, Clarion-Goldfield/Dows (0-3, 0-1) did not field a varsity team. Daphne Tijull, Brianna reyes and Haddi Lantzky each scored two for the Cowgirls.
The Gaels will make their home debut on Tuesday against Southeast Valley at 6 p.m. Clarion-Goldfield/Dows is at West Hancock on Saturday.
