MARSHALLTOWN — Shooting struggles and turnovers kept the Fort Dodge girls from picking up a road win here Friday night, as Marshalltown held on for a 35-27 victory.

The Dodgers (2-5 overall, 0-3 in the Iowa Alliance North) struggled early, scoring just eight points in the first the half. They were able to limit the Bobcats (7-1, 2-1) to 16, however, as the home squad also had turnover issues.

LJ Maehl led Fort Dodge with 12 points, Brooklyn Gilliland added six, Malay Hollins had five and Linnie Pratt four. Maehl also grabbed 10 rebounds. Both Gilliland and Hollins each pulled down four.

“The story of the game was our lack of scoring,” FDSH head coach Scott Messerly said. “We have to find more offensive production.

“We had a chance late; we just couldn’t find a bucket.”

Maehl and Pratt had back-to-back buckets and Maehl sank a free throw to end the third period and pull the Dodgers to within seven, and FDSH was able to make it a four-point game three different times in the fourth quarter. Marshalltown did just enough down the stretch to seal the win.

The Dodgers committed 28 turnovers on the night in falling for the third consecutive time. The Bobcats had over 30 turnovers themselves.

Jorja Janssen led the Bobcats with 13 points. Amairra Johnson contributed 10.

Fort Dodge’s planned game on Monday at Des Moines Lincoln has been postponed, due to current injuries and illness within the Railsplitters’ camp.

Starting at $4.94/week.
