Algona girls take title

Algona claimed four individual golds and was crowned team champion at the fourth annual Fort Dodge girls Invitational here on Friday.
The Bulldogs scored 210 points, more than 60 ahead of runner up Mason City (146). Humboldt (144) was third, followed by Clear Lake (110) and host Fort Dodge (105).
Second-ranked (IAwrestle) Mara Davis (23-3) picked up two falls and a title to claim the 105-pound championship. Third-rated Ruby Roof (29-1) pinned her way through four matches for the 125-pound crown.
No. 8 Regan Jensen (27-1) also pinned her way through the 155-pound bracket, earning four falls in the first period — including three under a minute.
Second-ranked Reagan Haynes (24-2) had three falls to win the crown at 190.
Laura Stohr (115), Hannah Foust (120), Sienna Fehr (135), and Emmy Owen (145) all took third for the Bulldogs. Eden Geddings (105), Reese Taylor (110), Kayla Vicente-Gomez (120), Kiah Villarreal (130), and Karsyn Myhre (235) were fourth.
No. 10 Danica Diedrick (17-0) had three falls on her way to the 170-pound championship for Humboldt. Laina Dettmann (130), Mia Sorensen (155), and Kennedy Robinson (235) all closed in third.
Gracey May (115), Madison Parker (125), and Dayton Cleghorn (145) were fourth for Humboldt.
Eagle Grove’s Catherine Orozco (100) and Marlee Thompson (110) both took bronze. Orozco had three pins and a major decision in the third-place match. She lost in the semifinals.
Thompson had three falls, including a fall in her third-place match.
Emmetsburg had three girls reach the finals, coming away with one gold.
Paytn Haack (21-3) had four pins on her way to claiming the crown at 140 pounds.
Taylor Thayer (120) and Montana Wilson (235) brought home silvers. Thayer pinned her way to the championship match in three matches. Wilson secured a pin in her match before the finals.
