Six wins for FD swimmers at DM East

DES MOINES — The Fort Dodge girls swim team came up short in dual action here Tuesday, falling to Des Moines East, 104-64.

The Dodgers did secure six total first-place efforts, as Karlee Pearson, Nora O’Connor and Gracie Harvey all won two races each. Pearson topped the field in both the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley. She clocked a winning swim of 1:15.50 in the breaststroke and won the I.M. in 2:32.92.

O’Connor won the 100 backstroke in 1:15.47 and the 100 freestyle in 1:04.03. Harvey claimed both the 200 freestyle (2:20.60) and 100 butterfly (1:08.73).

“The girls swam well,” FDSH head coach Ashley Beaumont said. “I think we underestimated East a little bit, but I’m happy that we swam more competitively than our last away meet.

“For (Pearson, O’Connor and Harvey), it definitely builds confidence going into the postseason.”

Teagan Loots was a runner-up in the 50 freestyle. FDSH was second in the 200 freestyle (Harvey, Breeanna Kalvig, Aubrey Alstott and Pearson in 2:05.60), 400 freestyle (O’Connor, Loots, Kalvig and Harvey in 4:39.98 and 200 medley (O’Connor, Pearson, Kalvig and Loots in 2:17.20) relays.

The Dodgers return to the pool Thursday at Carroll.
