Frevert shoots 79 for FDSH

INDIANOLA — The Fort Dodge boys golf team competed at the Steve Spray Invitational in Indianola on Monday.

The Dodgers shot a 330, their second best score of the season. They finished ahead of Council Bluffs Lincoln, a team that topped them by 12 strokes earlier this season.

“We just need to avoid the big numbers,” said Fort Dodge head coach Nick Vinson. “We aren’t going to completely avoid them, we just have to limit the doubles, triples and quads.”

Indianola shot a 286 to win the team title. Dallas Center-Grimes (293) was the runner up. Southeast Polk (300) finished third, followed by Ankeny (305), and Sioux City East (318).

Indianola’s Jackson Buchanan was the meet-medalist with a 67.

Fort Dodge was led by Mason Frevert’s 79.

“Mason had a really good day,” Vinson said. “We talked on the way home about just consistency. He was eight over through four holes and finished eight over.

“He finished with a par, birdie, par on his last three holes.”

Next in line was Davis Underberg (82). Completing the tournament for the Dodgers was Trace Rial (84), Gavin Davis (85), Jaxson Dencklau (88) and Karter Hemrick (99).

“Trace had a really nice stretch on holes five through 10,” Vinson said. “He was one over or even. I thought Gavin played well and Jaxson was hitting the ball better.

“Davis was solid and Karter did a nice job in his first varsity meet.”

The Dodgers are back in action on Tuesday when they play an Iowa Alliance Conference triangular with Des Moines East and Des Moines Roosevelt. Tee off is set for 3:30 p.m. at Waveland Golf Course.

Starting at $4.94/week.
