Iowa Central men move to 3-0

KANKAKEE, Ill. — The Iowa Central men’s soccer team is off to their best start since 2021 after claiming a 2-1 victory over Kankakee here Tuesday afternoon.

Back in 2021, the Tritons (3-0 overall) opened the year with a 6-1 mark.

Vito Callaci and Lautaro Bruning each scored for Iowa Central, as Callaci made it 1-0 just over three minutes into the match while Bruning accounted for the eventual game-winner in the 77th minute.

Kankakee scored with just seconds left in the match off a goal by Aaron Lopez.

The Tritons tallied eight shots on goal.

Callaci, from Italy, has now scored two goals in the last two games, as he also had a goal in a 2-1 win over State Fair this past Sunday at home. He has a team-leading three goals on the year.

For Bruning, that marked his first goal of the season as seven different Iowa Central players have now recorded a goal through three matches.

Next action for the Tritons will be on Saturday when they return home to face Marshalltown at 3 p.m. They play two straight and five of seven on the Iowa Central campus through September.

Starting at $4.94/week.
