Dodgers open boys golf season
DES MOINES — The Fort Dodge boys golf team opened their season by finishing second here on Thursday in an Iowa Alliance Conference triangular with Marshalltown and Des Moines North.
The Bobcats finished first at Bright Grandview Golf Course with a 308, followed by the Dodgers (341) and Polar Bears (448).
Junior Mason Frevert paced Fort Dodge with a round of 78, as classmate Trace Rial was next in line with an 86. Another junior, Davis Underberg, was right behind Rial with an 87, followed by 91s by both seniors Gavin Davis and Jaxson Dencklau. Camden Sassman added a 108.
“Mason played really well,” FDSH head coach Nick Vinson said. “He had a couple tough holes but for the most part, had a really good round. And the great thing about it is, he is capable of going lower and staying under 80 over the course of the season.
“Trace also played well, shooting his lowest score in a meet.”
Fort Dodge returns to the course on Monday, Aug. 25, when they host Mason City and Waterloo East.
