Another impressive win for Gael girls tennis

The St. Edmond girls tennis team remained unbeaten on the season with a convincing 8-1 triumph over Nevada at home on Tuesday.

Picking up wins in singles for the Gaels were Ava Andrew, Ava Underberg, Abby Huss, Chloe Palmer and Olivia Andrew, as St. Edmond (4-0 overall, 2-0 in the North Central Conference) swept the three doubles matches.

Olivia Andrew did not drop a game at the No. 6 singles position, and both Underberg and Palmer won by matching scores of 8-1 at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively.

Underberg and Palmer posted an 8-0 win at the top doubles spot, as Ava Andrew and Huss, along with Olivia Andrew and Sophia Schlienz, earned victories in the other two doubles matches.

“I couldn’t be happer with the way that the girls played,” SEHS head coach Shawn Neverman said. “It was definitely hot, but they pushed through and got the win.

“Going into the dual, I was hoping that everything that the girls have been working on in practice would show up on the courts, and it definitely did show up.”

The Gaels are now 40-8 over the past four seasons on the courts overall, including a mark of 15-0 against NCC opponents during that time.

In junior varsity matches, Lucy Midtling and Nina Smith, along with the doubles team of Maggie Flaherty and Lizzy Tiernan, scored wins.

St. Edmond returns to action on Thursday at Iowa Falls-Alden.
