Mariah Myers and Toryn Helle both hit home runs, Lauren Gibb recorded three hits and the seventh-ranked (Class 1A) St. Edmond softball team scored a 9-1 win in six over Webster City here Friday night at Rogers Park.
Myers belted a towering two-run shot in the third that landed in the top row of the centerfield bleacher while Helle connected for a two-run homer in the fourth. Gibb had a triple, a double and drove in three runs while scoring once.
The Gaels (7-2 overall, 4-0 in North Central Conference) have won five in a row this season and 21 straight in the league.
“I think you continue to see that we are getting our lineup, our defense and our pitchers figured out,” SEHS head coach Bill Shirbroun said. “This was a big performance for our team. We scored in (five of the six innings) and kept them off the board outside of one inning.
“It’s all a work-in-progress, but we’re getting there.”
For the Lynx (1-4, 1-3), Alivia Burns had an inside-the-park homer in the third after the ball got away and rolled to the fence. Cloe Savitski added two hits and a stolen base.
Back-to-back walks to begin the first led to a double by Gibb plating Myers to get the scoring started. After going down in order in the second, St. Edmond plated two runs in the third, two in the fourth, three in the fifth and scored the game-ending run with two on in the sixth.
“When Faith and Mariah get on like they did, Lauren is always there to move them around and drive them in,” Shirbroun said. “From there, our lineup just continues to settle in and do the jobs we need of them.”
Helle got the start in the circle. The freshman pitched the first four innings with five strikeouts, no walks and just four hits allowed.
Eighth-grader Rihanna Myers closed it out with three strikeouts over two innings.
Shirbroun was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk. Myrah Lemon had an RBI single.
Mariah Myers scored three times.
The Gaels will now head to Le Mars for the CYO on Saturday. Webster City plays that same day in Perry at the Paul and Mary Ann Graves Classic.
