Woman charged in connection with 2024 homicide

Another person has been arrested for their actions in the aftermath of a 2024 murder in Fort Dodge.

Makayla S. McNeeley, 29, of 190 Avenue M West, was arrested Friday morning and charged with abuse of a corpse and accessory after the fact.

The criminal complaints filed against her state that her offenses occurred between 11:20 p.m. April 25, 2024, and 2 a.m. April 26, 2024, at 1440 Second Ave. S. and along 280th Street in rural Webster County.

April 25, 2024, is the date on which Dennis Jones, 55, was shot to death in his home at 1440 Second Ave. S. His body was dumped in a roadside ditch along 280th Street.

Police and prosecutors say Dennis Jones was shot three times by his son, Alec Jones, 26.

Alec Jones was convicted of first degree murder last year and is now serving life in prison.

His brother, Nathan Jones, 22, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder, abuse of a corpse and accessory after the fact. He is now serving 22 years in prison.

McNeeley made her initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Friday morning. She waived her right to a preliminary hearing, meaning the case against her will proceed to arraignment and trial.

She was released under supervision to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services.

Earlier this week, Aidan D. Pate, 23, of Thor, was also arrested on charges of abuse of a corpse and accessory after the fact in connection to the case. He also waived his right to a preliminary hearing and was released under supervision to the Department of Correctional Services.
