No. 4 Dodgers throttle Bobcats

MARSHALLTOWN — The fourth-ranked (Class 4A) Fort Dodge softball team put up 23 runs in a doubleheader sweep over Iowa Alliance Conference rival Marshalltown here Wednesday night.

Scores were 12-0 and 14-3, with both games ending in five innings.

In the opener, Lucy Porter and Katie Mason combined on a no-hitter, as Porter struck out eight over four innings before Mason pitched a perfect fifth for the Dodgers (5-1 overall, 4-0 in league), who have scored 50 runs during a four-game win streak.

Calliegh Zimmermann provided more than enough offense, hitting a home run while adding a double, as the sophomore drove in two and scored twice, finishing the game 3-for-3. The homer and double were the first of the year for Zimmermann.

“It was great to really get going there with a big first inning,” FDSH head coach Andi Adams said. “Once we get rolling, it’s hard to stop our offense. The girls did a great job up and down the lineup in producing throughout the night.”

Ellie Doster was 4-for-4 with a pair of RBI, Macy Wills had three hits, two RBI and a stolen base, and Hope Alstott had two hits, two runs, two steals and an RBI.

Meah McCaleb added two hits with a pair of runs and a steal while Ava Wessels scored twice and stole two bases.

The nightcap saw more of the same, as the Dodgers quickly erased a 3-0 deficit with a five-run fifth. Aubrey Alstott hit her first home run of the season while earning the win inside the circle.

“Our pitchers all did a great job of mixing things up and hitting the spots,” Adams said. “They played well off one another.”

Wills had three more hits while Grace Nichols drove in three. Doster had two hits and two RBI, Hope Alstott had two hits and scored twice, and Ashlyn Wills collected two hits with a pair of runs scored.

Cadence Touney went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.

Fort Dodge heads to the West Des Moines Valley Shootout this Saturday to face third-ranked (5A) Pleasant Valley at 11 a.m. and No. 7 (4A) Norwalk at 3 p.m. Both games will be played at George Davis Softball Park.
