Dodgers split at Ottumwa
OTTUMWA — The Fort Dodge baseball team walked away with a split against Ottumwa here Thursday night.
After dropping the opener, 2-0, the Dodgers took the nightcap, 14-3.
Rylan Kingrey was 3-for-4 with a triple, four runs scored, an RBI and a steal in the win for the Dodgers (15-9 overall), as Jaxson Dencklau recorded two hits with two RBI, two runs scored and two steals.
Tanner Peterson went six innings, striking out three while allowing just five hits. Kingrey finished it off on the mound in the seventh.
“We got going early in game two at the plate,” FDSH head coach Blake Utley said. “We were able to build off that and Tanner did a great job pitching on his birthday. He almost had the complete game but we took him out because of the pitch-count.
“Rylan was outstanding once again; he’s just a really fun player to watch. He got on base and was a menace.”
Kolton Schiltz, Royce Pederson, Reggie Pederson and Bo Marsh all drove in a run as Reggie Pederson scored twice. The Dodgers worked eight walks, including two by Cal Pederson.
Ottumwa (15-6) scored one in the first and one in the second of the opener, as Kingrey, Royce Pederson, Cal Pederson, Reggie Pederson and Marsh each had a hit.
“I thought our pitchers did an excellent job all night,” Utley said. “We just couldn’t get the big hit we needed in the first game. Our defense played well and we did a good job overall for 14 innings of baseball.”
Fort Dodge will conclude its previously postponed doubleheader on Friday at Des Moines East beginning at 10 a.m.
