Schany grabs double bronze

DES MOINES — Emmetsburg’s Rachel Schany earned a pair of bronze medals as she began her state track and field championships here Thursday inside Drake Stadium.
Schany, who will defend her Class 2A title in the high jump on Friday, placed third in both the long jump and 400-meter run.
She jumped 17-8 on her third attempt of the opening flight to secure a spot on the stand, going a personal best 58.08 to place third in the 400.
The shuttle hurdle relay of Cameron Madden, Tyce Jenness, Owen Householder and Bronson Dietrich for the E-Hawk boys clocked a season best at 1:01.78, placing ninth in the prelims. The Top-8 moved on in the event.
Schany’s Twin Lakes Conference counterpart, Tyra Schupbach of West Bend-Mallard, added a third in the 1A 3,000 during the afternoon session. Schupbach clocked a personal best of 10:27.02 in the distance event.
Schupbach’s teammate, Maddie Fehr, earned a spot in the 100 finals after placing eighth in the prelims in a season best time of 12.72. Fehr also ran the 200 prelims, just missing out by finishing ninth in 26.33.
The Wolverine 4×800 relay of Addie Montag, Lilly Morey, Schupbach and Allie Fehr was 17th in 10:20.69, a best for the season.
Halee Hauswirth of Pocahontas Area gave the TLC another medalist, as the junior was fourth in the shot put in 2A.
Hauswirth set a new personal record with her throw of 39-6.5, which came on her second attempt of the opening flight. She also cleared 39-5 and twice went over 38 feet.
Amanda Davis was 18th in the 100 prelims in a season best of 12.94.
Eagle Grove’s Addyson Jeske, the lone qualifier for her school, picked up a medal to conclude her senior year. Jeske went 16-11.75 in the 2A long jump on her sixth and final attempt.
Algona
Max Nevitt secured a medal on the opening day for the Bulldogs, as the junior placed sixth in the 3A discus. Nevitt had a best of 161-2, which surpassed his previous best throw of 158-9 earlier this year.
William Weichert and Evan Allie both earned spots in the finals of the 100 and 200. Weichert finished seventh in the 100 prelims in 10.82 while Allie went 21.78 to place fourth in the 200 prelims.
Will Limbaugh placed 22nd in the same event, as the sophomore had a toss of 133-8. Ashton Moreno was 21st in the 400 in 52.82 and Tate Garman placed 12th in the 200 prelims in 22.62.
Natalie Johnson was 10th in the 100 prelims in 12.45, Reagan Haynes finished 19th in the discus with a throw of 107-7 and the 4×800 relay was 24th.
Bishop Garrigan
Freshmen Madelyn Tigges and Julia Swift secured Top-13 finishes in their first state meets, as Tigges was ninth in the 1A 400. She clocked a time of 1:00.20.
Swift, meanwhile, was 13th in the 3,000, going 11:14.35 for a personal best.
Bishop Garrigan’s 4×800 relay of Thadd Kollasch, CJ McGregor, Carter McGregor and Andrew Lichter was 14th in a season best time of 8:36.30.
East Sac County
Riley Aragon wrapped up his junior season by placing 23rd in the 2A 3,200. Aragon had a time of 10:23.37, which was a personal-best.
The Raiders also ran in the 4×100 shuttle hurdle, as the quartet of Haley Jo King, Libbie Veit, Madison Meister and Wendie Veit placed 10th in the prelims with a season best time of 1:09.33.
Humboldt
Tyler Carlson wrapped up his high jump career with a fourth place finish in 3A, leading the Wildcats.
Carlson, a senior, cleared 6-3, getting over the bar on his third and final attempt. He came up short of going over at 6-5.
The 4×800 relay of Jackson Dodd, Chase Flaherty, Mason Van Pelt and Jackson Flaherty placed 10th in 8:07.10, clocking a season-best.
Humboldt’s shuttle hurdle relay of Carlson, Valley Davis, Griffin Groat and Dodd was 14th in the prelims in 1:03.26 while Aubry Fisher, a freshman, placed 17th in the 3,000 in a personal best time of 10:56.68.
Newell-Fonda
Mareni Brabec started her double at state with a Top-10 in the 1A 3,000, as the Mustang junior placed ninth.
Brabec clocked a personal record of 10:58.58 in the event and also ran on the ninth place 4×800 as the anchor leg.
Joining her on the relay, which clocked a time of 10:10.30, was Rylee Hogrefe, Anna Mercer and Danika Meyer.
Ellie Sievers, a freshman, finished 10th in the long jump with a best of 16-2.25.
Southeast Valley
Three events took to the track on the opening day of state for the Jaguars, as the shuttle hurdle relay of Alex Burger, Casey Hanson, Kolton Ollinger and Colin Johnson placed 14th.
The quartet clocked a season best time in the event, but were unable to advance out of the prelims.
Kayden Showers finished 16th in the 200 prelims in 2A, as the junior went 22.57. Keelan Wellman, a freshman, placed 23rd in the 400 in 55.52.
South Central Calhoun
All four event finals for the Titans saw their athletes place in the Top-20, led by a 12th from senior Redge Potts.
Potts finished the 2A 3,200 in 9:57.07, setting a new personal-record.
Sophomore Tristin Gorden was 10th in the shot put with a throw of 36-9 while junior Jace Pedersen placed 17th in the shot put with a toss of 47-10.75.
Iris Melody finished 19th in the 3,000 in a season best time of 11:20.70 while Mya Ridgely was 14th in the 100 prelims in 12.82. Both Melody and Ridgely are juniors.
Webster City
Jayden Weinzetl’s final run in a Lynx uniform took place Thursday morning, as the senior placed 11th in the 100 prelims of 3A.
Weinzetl clocked a time of 10.94 in the event.
Justin Callahan, a junior, was 11th in the 400, going 50.94 to set a new personal-best. Sophomore Isabel Grossoehme also set a new PR in the 400, placing 12th in 59.05.
