Lursen leads Gael girls again

HAMPTON — St. Edmond’s Anna Lursen had another strong night for the girls track team on Friday.

Lursen prevailed in two individual events and was part of the winning sprint medley as the Gaels placed fifth in the team standings.

“We did a lot of good things,” said SEHS head coach CJ Tracy. “The weather conditions weren’t perfect, but the girls have a lot to be proud of.

“To finish fifth with the bigger schools is a great accomplishment.”

Lursen clocked a 58.44 to win the 100-meter dash, and crossed the finish line in 2:20.40 to capture gold in the 800.

She teamed with Faith Shirbroun, Sasha Hess and Josie Harvey to win the sprint medley in 1:51.12, which breaks the school record set in 1999.

“A big congratulations to the sprint medley of Faith, Sasha, Josie and Anna for breaking the school record,” Tracy said. “That’s a mark that’s stood for over 25 years.”

The Gaels received two silver medal finishes from Mariah Myers and Josie Harvey. Myers placed second in the shot put (40-01) and Harvey was a runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles (16.66).

Myers was also third in the discus (125-11). Harvey was third in the 100-meter dash (13.40).

St. Edmond is back in action on Monday when they run at the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadet Relays.

Starting at $2.99/week.
