Henning named rookie of the year in ARC

CEDAR RAPIDS — The honors continue to come in for Kaili Henning now that she is competing at the college softball level.

Henning, a standout for St. Edmond, was recently named the American Rivers Conference rookie of the year along with making the all-conference second team for Loras College.

A true freshman, Henning went 10-6 with a 2.91 earned run average and 84 strikeouts this past year to lead the Duhawks. She led all freshmen pitchers in the league in wins and strikeouts.

“This is such a big accomplishment for me,” Henning said. “To come straight from high school to college and earn recognition is truly an honor.”

In conference play alone, Henning was 7-2 with a 2.30 earned run average, recording 43 strikeouts in just under 55 innings pitched. She had a career-high 11 strikeouts and had at least five in eight other games, including five conference matchups.

But just like she did for the Gaels, Henning shined at the plate to go along with her strong performance inside the circle, hitting .363 with 37 total hits and 20 RBI as Loras finished 22-15 overall and 9-7 in the ARC.

Henning was one of just four freshmen to make the all-ARC second team this past spring. This was the first year the league has handed out a rookie of the year award.

She also was named to the all-Region IX second team by the NFCA.
