WEBSTER CITY — Webster City standout Eddy Fuentes-Cruz placed his name in the Iowa high school boys soccer history books here Tuesday night.

Fuentes-Cruz recorded a haul, reaching 100 career goals as the seventh-ranked (Class 2A) Lynx scored a commanding 7-1 victory over No. 8 (3A) Aplington-Parkersburg.

Three straight goals by Fuentes-Cruz gave Webster City (13-0 overall) all the scoring they would need, as he reached 99 goals in the opening half of play.

Israel Torres would make it 4-0 before the half, as Conner Peck gave the Lynx a five-goal advantage before the Falcons (9-3-1) fired one in off a long throw-in.

At the 63-minute mark of the match, Torres found Fuentes-Cruz for the record-setting score, as six minutes later, it was Fuentes-Cruz with his second assist of the night to Torres.

“It was great to celebrate Eddy achieving a milestone,” WCHS head coach Craig Signorin said. “It got me pretty emotional as it is just an incredible feat.”

Fuentes-Cruz is just the fifth player in Iowa high school boys soccer to reach 100 career goals. He has 36 on the season, a number he reached last year as well.

With at least three games left, he has a chance to record just the 21st single-season mark of scoring at least 40 goals.

“He’s a great kid,” Signorin said. “He’s grateful and understands how he got to this point, too. He’s gotten to play with a tremendous supporting cast.”

On the night, the Lynx tallied 18 shots with 12 on goal compared to 13 shots with six on goal for Aplington-Parkersburg.

Torres tallied two goals and three assists while Aaron Mendoza had two assists.

“I thought the boys were dominant, especially in the hot conditions,” Signorin said. “We had to make lots of changes throughout, but everyone that came on worked hard and played extremely well.

“Edwin (Ramos Nolasco) had his best game of the year. JR won just about every ball on the back line for us. Our outside backs, midfield and guys up top all played well.”

Webster City closes out the regular season on Thursday at Humboldt before hosting Fort Dodge Friday. They have already clinched the North Central Conference championship.
