9 wins for Gael girls in Gowrie
GOWRIE — The St. Edmond girls track and field team won nine events in placing second here Tuesday evening at the Richard Ryan Relays.
South Central Calhoun was able to secure the Class B title over the Gaels by seven points. Carroll earned the A division crown ahead of Webster City, Manson Northwest Webster, Pocahontas Area and host Southeast Valley.
Mariah Myers and Josie Harvey were both double winners for St. Edmond, as Myers swept the throwing events and Harvey the hurdles. Anna Lursen and Lily Eslick were also individual winners with the sprint medley, distance medley and 4×200 relays all claiming gold.
“It was a good meet overall for us,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “The conditions were not ideal but the girls went out and competed. I thought we did a lot of good things considering the weather.
“Everybody prepared well for their event and we can take a lot of positives away from this.”
Myers had a throw of 38-6.5 to win the shot put and a toss of 122-8 in the discus. Harvey went 17.58 in the 100 hurdles and had a time of 1:17.42 in the 400 hurdles.
Lursen won the 200 in 27.00. Eslick claimed the 1,500 crown in 6:14.38.
South Central Calhoun prevailed in two events, as Mya Ridgely was first in the 100 and the 4×100 relay earned gold.
In A action, Webster City’s Cloe Savitski swept the 100 and 200 with Lynx teammate Isabel Grossoehme winning the 400. WCHS was also first in the sprint medley and 4×800 relays.
Kyla Egli took the A long jump and 100 hurdles for the Cougars. Brylea Prince (high jump), Alyssa Richman (800), Tia Brennan (1,500) and the distance medley all added victories for MNW.
Pocahontas Area captured the shot put courtesy of Halee Hauswirth in A along with the 4×200 and 4×100 relays.
Southeast Valley’s Ruby Stimpson won the 3,000 in A.
Newell-Fonda’s Ellie Sievers won the B long jump and 400, as Lindsey Wolf (high jump), Danika Meyer (3,000) and Mareni Brabec (800) were also winners.
St. Edmond runs Thursday in Eagle Grove.
