Winners of both games advance to the title round on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Earlier this week, the Golden Bears (23-3 overall) rolled past Montezuma, 69-31, returning to the final four for the first time since completing back-to-back state title runs in 2022-23. Lone senior Zoe Montag scored 16 points, hitting four 3-pointers, while Graclyn Eastman had a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Council Bluffs St. Albert (23-1) struggled in a 42-31 victory over Dunkerton, as Avah Underwood scored 13 points with 15 rebounds, three blocks and three steals. St. Albert, who knocked Garrigan out in the quarters last year, fell to North Linn in the semifinals.

Newell-Fonda (21-4) rolled over Springville in the quarters, 60-32, earning the school’s 33rd win all-time at state. They rank third for most wins in the tournament behind Ankeny and Dowling.

Ellie Sievers, a freshman, scored 18 points while Kinzee Hinders added 15 with six steals. The Mustangs recorded 27 steals in all, as head coach Dick Jungers improved to 512-81 overall including 93-12 over the last four year.

North Linn (24-1) escaped with a 33-29 victory over Gladbrook-Reinbeck, scoring the fewest points by a Lynx team since 2016. Molly Boge had 15 points and Emilee Beuter had 12 rebounds.

Newell-Fonda, Bishop Garrigan and North Linn have won a combined eight state championships, with all of them coming since 2015 and six of them having been claimed since the 2020 season.
