County golf on the tees
Many of the county’s best golfers will be on the course Saturday for the 46th annual Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota Webster County tournament.
The men’s field will be at the Fort Dodge Country Club, with a 9 a.m. shotgun start opening the competition. The women and juniors play at Lakeside; tee times begin at 8 a.m.
As is always the case, the quality of play should create interesting races in multiple divisions. A number of former champions are signed up for what is now a one-day event, with Open, Senior (age 50-59), Super Senior (60-69) and Legends (70 and older) stroke-play competitions on the table. The third annual two-player women’s best shot is also being offered.
The men’s open, senior and super senior divisions will follow an 18-hole format with a 9-hole championship nine beginning at approximately 2 p.m. The men’s legends division will be an 18-hole competition.
This is the county tourney’s inaugural junior event, with ages 11-13 (nine holes) and 14-17 (18 holes) on the docket.
Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded in each division.
There will be $100 winners at all par-3s during Saturday’s action in the Full Swing Financial Planning closest to the pin contest at the FDCC.
Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota is in its 21st year of sponsoring this event, which The Messenger took over in 1980.
The weather is expected to hold steady, with temperatures in the mid- to high-80s, light winds and somewhat muggy conditions. No precipitation is expected.
The FDCC is a par 35-36-71 layout. Lakeside is a 36-36-72.
