It was business as usual for the fourth-ranked Iowa Central wrestling team here inside Hodges Fieldhouse Wednesday night

Sophomores Jaydale Whitlock, Chance Davis and Lawence Rosario all posted convincing wins for the Tritons, as they downed No. 25 Iowa Lakes, 47-6.

Drew Cooper, Matt Roche, Gary Walker III, Kaden King, Sam Libby and Coen Grimm added victories.

Prior to the start, Iowa Central honored Whitlock, Davis, Rosario and the rest of the sophomore class.

“We are reaching the point of the season where you have to be locked in each time out step on the mat, whether that is practice, a dual or a tournament,” Iowa Central head coach Luke Moffitt said. “I thought our focus was there right from the start with Jaydale getting us going from the opening match.”

Whitlock, ranked second at 125 pounds, had no problems picking up the technical fall to start the dual off. Davis, No. 1 at 157, earned a fall in 78 seconds while Rosario secured his pin at 174 in just 68 seconds.

Roche also won by pin while King, ranked sixth at 165, Libby, rated eighth at 184, and Grimm, who is third at 197, earned technical falls. Cooper, the No. 4 wrestler at 133, was awarded a forfeit while Walker picked up a 4-1 decision at 149.

“We’ve been able to settle into a routine and now we will prepare for nationals,” Moffitt said. “These guys are ready to show what they are capable of.”

Will Penn, the lone ranked wrestler for Iowa Lakes, did not compete. Penn is rated eighth at 149 pounds.

This was the final regular season action for the Tritons, as they now set their sights on the regional tournament on Sunday, Feb. 16 in Council Bluffs. Joining Iowa Central will be second-ranked Indian Hills, No. 11 North Iowa Area, 20th-rated Iowa Western and the Lakers among others.

Following that, the NJCAA National Tournament goes down March 7-8, also in Council Bluffs.

Starting at $2.99/week.
