Myer looks for third state appearance

JEWELL — St. Edmond’s Sam Myer is looking to finish his career with his third state appearance.

The Gael senior will be vying for a state spot at 138 pounds in a Class 1A, District 9 meet in Jewell.

Action is set to begin at 8 a.m. with weigh-ins and wrestling at 10 a.m.

Joining the Gaels and host South Hamilton will be ACGC, AGWSR, Don Bosco, Manson Northwest Webster, North Tama, Ogden, Pocahontas Area, and South Central Calhoun.

Myer enters this district meet with a record of 25-13. He has had 25-plus wins the past three seasons. He is 93-60 in his career.

“It would mean a lot to see Sam end his career at the state tournament,” said St. Edmond head coach Kaden McClintock. “He is a great leader in the room and one of the hardest workers.

“He deserves to get down there and wrestle again.”

Also competing for the Gaels will be freshmen Owen Rutherford (106), Matthew Crimmins (132), sophomore Grant Anderson (190) and senior Adam Walker (285).

Crimmins, a freshman, has put together a 23 win campaign. Walker, a senior, has 13 victories.

“Both Matthew and Adam have a good chance to get down there,” McClintock said. “They both have been wrestling pretty good and we’re excited to see what they can do.”
