Golf teams host Triton Fall Kickoff
The Iowa Central golf teams host the Triton Fall Kickoff on Monday at the Fort Dodge Country Club.
Head coach Kris Graewin’s men and women welcome a full and competitive field for the 18-hole tournament, which begins at 10 a.m.
“We’ve got a great group of young men and women that have been working hard for the past month since moving in early in August,” Graewin said. “We’ve got a great field coming to play in our tournament…teams that have placed high at nationals, and including teams from a few different states.
“Murray State is coming from Oklahoma, North Central Missouri is coming up, North Platte will be here. We’re excited to compete against some of the best programs in the country, and to hopefully protect home course at Fort Dodge Country Club.”
The Triton men’s squad features sophomore Bailey Doe — an NJCAA national qualifier last spring — as well as classmates Benjamin Christy, Cade German and Colby Ramsdale. The women have sophomores Alexa Jeske — a native of Eagle Grove — as well as Ivanna Becerra-Diaz, Olivia Eckert, Jenna Kramer, Brooklyn Backoff and Macy Steele.
“Ivanna Becerra-Diaz is one of the best players in the country,” Graewin said. “I’m anxious to watch her play this year. Olivia Eckert and Jenna Kramer also are going to be keys to our success.
“We’ve got a very competitive men’s team that’s deep. We just need to find some consistency throughout our lineup and we can achieve some special goals.”
Freshman Nicholas Erickson — a Pomeroy native — and Ethan Kuper of Algona (Bishop Garrigan) are among the Iowa Central newcomers, along with Webster City’s Braylon Plain, Tucker Smith of Manson Northwest Webster, Kollin Frederes, Samuel Jackson, Filip Jarheden, Kadyn Neubauer, Hunter Ramirez, Aden Staples, Peyton Walker and Eric Zuniga.
This is the Tritons’ only home tourney of the fall season, though they do play in Mason City on Sept. 17; Council Bluffs Sept. 23-24; Boone Sept. 27; and Sioux City Oct. 7-8.
Graewin’s 2024-25 assistant is Grayson Blunt.
